Song Production Breakdown — "Carbon Copy" by HOLTERGEIST and Amanda Huff

The latest video for my young YouTube channel is another session breakdown, which doesn't play well with algorithms and the Mastering YouTube For Growth And Profit crowd... but that's not why I'm making videos. At all.

I have been thinking about video in a manner more akin to ancillary packaging for the music projects we're making at The License Lab. Some of those in the future might veer into gear geekery or technical How To guides, but finding and connecting with others who might appreciate what we do—and how we do it—is really the focus at this point for our YouTube efforts.

And, honestly, I've already been blown away at how the platform puts our stuff in front of people who might be into it... had one such random encounter while at a B3 organ funk/soul night at a bar here in Seattle this week, dude walked right up to me with a smile and said "Hey! I know you from YouTube! The License Lab, right?!" I was shocked. And amazed. Mostly shocked. Still shocked days later.

This episode is a session breakdown of the song I released last week, "Carbon Copy" with my friend and surreal vocalist Amanda Huff. Instead of sanitizing and polishing all of the noise and rough edges within, I leaned into those elements on this piece and found the resulting chaotic atmosphere deeply inspiring... especially after hearing what Amanda had sung on top of my original demo.

Also I have to make new videos to use up all my YouTube Face™ poses. Be kind, it's early. Still learning.
