my approach

In My Dreams

I think of myself as a cross - stylistically - between Daniel Lanois and Bob Clearmountain. I realize those are lofty heights (!!), but I just adore the two sides of the spectrum… Lanois’ gritty, emotional, greasy, in-the-moment atmosphere, and Clearmountain’s sculpting of sounds, everything in it’s place, all parts bowing down to the singer and the song.

They both also achieve a great balance between pop and art, they walk the line between artistic credibility and popular acceptance. It can be a precarious and dangerous place, but they pull it off - in spades.

And while between the two of them I’ve only met Mr. Clearmountain, all indications are that Mr. Lanois is also genuine, humble, and has the respect of the artists he’s worked with. I hope the same can be said of me someday.

Balance Is Key

While producing a song, or a whole collection of songs (an EP or full CD), I am always thinking about the larger picture, the impression the entire package will leave on the listener or fan. I think you’ll find my productions and mixes to be a combination of balance and extremes, textures and tones married to melodies and grooves.
